We want to take a moment to honor the pain, grief and uncertainty piercing the Black community right now. We stand united with them, and with everyone speaking out, protesting and working against racism and injustice.

Fostering culture and community with kindness and respect is central to our mission at SHACK15, and right now, our nation is calling louder than ever for unified support. This movement has many initiatives, but overall this is a fight to end systemic racism. We recognize that severe inequalities against the Black community persist in tech and business, and as a part of that community, we know we have work to do.

What we’re doing //

At SHACK15, we’re committed to creating lasting change and we are taking the time to craft meaningful initiatives that will address racism and inequality. We’ll continue to support Black entrepreneurs, creatives and innovators through our events and partnerships, and facilitate further conversations around race and inclusion in this country.

What we all can do //

We’re calling on our entire community to take the time to feel, explore, learn and act.

Individually, we can show unity and support in a number of ways, whether your circumstances allow you to donate money, sign petitions or be on the front lines in protest. Activism is multidimensional and each method is equally as important as the next in order to create real change. We’ve put together a list of educational resources, Black-owned businesses and organizations to support, and other ways to get involved.

During this time, it’s important to make space for our community to heal and process the complex emotions many are feeling.

To respect and encourage this personal process, on June 16, we’re hosting RESONANCE, a mindfulness and mediation practice led by Nkechi Deanna Njaka, with incredible live music from Tauwoo, and we invite you to join and hold space with us.

We firmly believe that Black Lives Matter, and we are committed to being part of the change that needs to take place. We encourage all of you to be part of the conversation, share ways we can work together and ways we can improve.

Change isn’t possible without community.
